Different Types of Wine Cellar Cooling Systems

Wine Guardian offers the best wine cellar temperature control units on the market. We have a wide variety of wine cooler systems to choose from, and we can help you find the perfect one for your needs.

Ducted Wine Cellar Cooling Systems

Ducted Wine Cellar Cooling Systems

Versatile and self-contained, ducted systems provide cooling capacities for residential or commercial wine cellars of any size. They’re available in four capacities, ranging from 3,760 to 15,680 BTU/H (880 to 3,812 Watts). These efficient units are designed for placement outside your wine cellar, preserving the quiet ambiance and beauty of your space. They’re easy to install, so you may not need a licensed contractor for your project.

Ducted Split Cooling Systems

Ducted Split Cooling Systems

Ducted split cooling systems offer optimal temperature and humidity control as well as air distribution for residential or commercial wine cellars, accommodating a variety of applications. As our most flexible system, you can install this split cooling unit with individual evaporator and condenser sections regardless of your cellar’s design, space limitations, required system location, ductwork run length, or other application constraints. You can even place the condenser on your home’s exterior, keeping your storage space free of vibrations and operational noise. These systems come in capacities of up to 14,900 BTU/H (3,812 Watts).

Ductless Split Wine Cellar Cooling System

Ductless Split Cooling Systems

For cellars in which there are space limitations and ductwork isn’t possible, ductless split cooling units for wine cellars are ideal. Flexible options for virtually any small or medium-sized wine wall, display, or storage room, these cutting-edge systems are versatile enough for either surface or through-the-wall mounting. We offer them in three styles: wine wall, through-the-wall, and ceiling-mounted. Providing easy installation and access, they’re a good solution when you have a compact mechanical room or difficulties exhausting the condenser air.

Through-the-wall Cooling Systems

Through-the-Wall Cooling Systems

Available in two capacities of up to 2,100 BTU/H (455 Watts) to provide ideal temperature and humidity conditions, our commercial-grade through-the-wall (TTW) cooling systems are perfect for the do-it-yourselfer with a small to mid-sized cellar or wine wall. The key to their easy installation is the EasyMount™: a one-piece wall bracket that’s relatively simple for most wine enthusiasts to work with. TTW systems will integrate seamlessly into your space, combining maximum efficiency and lasting performance with stylish, modern aesthetics and quiet operation. With all-aluminum frames and corrosion-resistant components, TTWs will remain beautiful and operational as they age alongside your collection.

Cabinet Cooling Unit

Cabinet Cooling Systems

We’ve specifically designed our cabinet cooling systems for integration into customers’ wine cabinets. These compact units are self-contained, professional-grade climate control systems for regulating the temperature of a wine cabinet, display, or showcase at either aging or serving temperatures (41° to 64° F/5° to 18° C). These units don’t require any ductwork or a drain line connection, allowing their incorporation into the top or bottom portion of your wine cabinet.

Wine Cellar Cooling FAQs

Can I use a regular air conditioning unit to cool my wine cellar?

No, this isn’t a recommended practice. Cooling units specially designed for wine cellars help create and monitor the ideal temperature and humidity levels for storing and preserving wine. Air conditioners, alternately, are meant to quickly lower room temperature. Such temperature fluctuations can negatively impact the quality of your collection.

Wine is typically stored at approximately 55° F, a temperature that standard air conditioning units can’t achieve. Wine cellar cooling systems will also help you maintain the optimal humidity conditions in your space, preventing the oxidation that otherwise occurs when corks on your bottles dry out.

What are the ideal temperature & humidity levels for a wine cellar?

While temperature recommendations range from 45° to 65° F (7° to 18° C), the ideal storage temperature for wine is generally considered by most collectors to be 55° to 57° F (12° to 14° C). That said, your personal preference also factors into the appropriate temperature setting for your wine cellar. As for humidity, around 60% relative humidity is preferred, with up to 80% being acceptable.

Can I install a wine room cooling unit myself?

While all of our wine cellar coolers are designed to offer easy installation, whether or not you can do it yourself depends on the type of unit that you purchase. Through-the-wall cooling systems, for example, are a perfect DIY solution, whereas we recommend hiring a contractor to install ducted self-contained units. As for ducted split and ductless split systems, those must be installed by a licensed contractor.

With each of our systems, Wine Guardian provides a detailed manual to facilitate installation. We also offer installation videos on our site, or you can speak with our customer support team should you need additional guidance.
